Many students after completing their graduation in the Engineering in IT, Computers , BCA , MCA are confused about the career options available to them , Information Technology is such a wide field and there are many positions and opportunities that students might not be aware of . 1.Software programmer: This is one option that all most all of them are aware of; the job profile involves writing computer programs in some programming language like c#, vb.net, ASP.net, PHP. The various platforms available are the desktop, the web or the mobile. Based on the platform you choice the choice of programming language. You could also decide which platform you want to target and based on that get extra certification or projects to enhance your employment chances.
2. Software Testing: Software Testing is the other vital aspect of creating and delivering software. A software programmer would develop software and the task of a software Test engineer is to ensure that the software satisfies the quality criteria laid by the organization.
In software testing, you would look at looking for application crashes, application behavior subject to various inputs and observe the outputs of the program. Software testing can be majorly divided into Blackbox testing and White box testing.
3.Database Administrator(DBA): Various large application requires , to store and retrieve data. These data are stored in Databases (DBMS). There is a vast need to manage these databases. The major role here is to create users, backup data, optimize the database for performance, etc. The major option of specialization is Oracle, SQL server, DB2 etc. Various certifications are possible and provided by the vendors of these products.
4. Software sales: Many students are not aware about the opportunities available in the software sales department. The software created has to be marketed and sold. Selling of software requires the correct understanding of the domain, the product . Understanding user requirements and approaching right customers. This requires understanding of the software systems. Hence Engineers have good potential in this field too.
5. Application Engineers/ Software trainers: After the software is sold to the customer, adequate training is required by the customer so that he uses the software efficiently, and is a loyal and happy customer. This role is played by the application Engineer/Software trainer.
6. Software support: There would be times where the software doest works as expected or there is some issues at the customer side, this is the time where software support professionals jump in to provide help to the customers. They solve technical queries related to products and process related to the system so that customers do not face any major issues if there is something goes wrong.
